There are many important items that any volunteer should consider taking when travelling abroad, depending where they are going to and what they are going to do. Where we have used the item or product we will give it our own personal review. With the other products we will ist them with a description. The SteriPEN traveler is a brilliant pocket sized device which uses ultraviolet light to purify your water as you travel around as a volunteer. The UV light destroys the DNA of the micro-organisms in the water thus rendering them unable to reproduce and cause you illness.
It is a small and lightweight device making it particularly convenient to carry amongst your travel gear.
It has an automatic timer which lets you know when the water should be safe to drink, which usually takes a minute or less. A device such as this is probably essential for use in countries with water quality issues and where supplied water is not drinkable without prior treatment of some kind or prolonged boiling.
